"It isn't what we say or think that defines us, but what we do."
-Jane Austen

Actions speak louder than words.
What are my actions saying about me, I wonder?

I suspect my actions are fairly minimal most days.
I go to work.
I come home.
I do some creative thing.
I repeat.

I suppose that I lead a quiet life.
Then again, I don't think too many people live lives of daily unbridled heroism.

Maybe our small actions can end up meaning a lot to others.
I hope mine do.

I'll probably never rush into a burning building to save someone's life,
but I hope that I'm there for people when they need me to be.

I can think of times when someone has saved my life
by putting a hand on my shoulder and telling me I was doing a good job.
Or by talking with me through the hard times.
Or by just sitting next to me and letting me cry it out so I wouldn't feel alone.

I hope that I can be that kind of hero,
because I think there are quite a few more tears in the world than there are fires.

While it's not a glamorous sort of heroism,
I think it's the kind of heroism we could use more of.
