Favorite Supply

The prompt word for today's Junk Journal July was 'favorite supply'.

I had a hard time coming up with mine.

"Attention is the rarest and purest form of generosity."
-Simone Weil

My favorite art supply is the one I'm using at the time.

I am really enjoying the way those black and white Tim Holtz diecuts stand out against the colorful background.

Somedays it's paint...

Somedays it's pretty papers or washi tapes...

Somedays it's colored pencils...or regular pencils...or pens...

Somedays it's fabric or thread or yarn...

For those cliff/tree stumps in the drawings, I was inspired by an artist called Matt Forsythe.
I saw one of his works on Pinterest (my pinterest handle is Sweet Red Clover and the picture on my board called "Art in my heart"), and had to have a go.
Mine don't look like his, but, I am proud to say, I quite like both!

Which kind of leads me to believe that my favorite art supply
is really my own two hands and my own creativity.

I was so terrible at art when I first started out.
Everybody is a beginner at one point,
but some people do start with a measure of innate talent for things...
I was definitely NOT one of those people.

I can still remember the first time I was proud of something I drew.
It was a long, hard struggle to get to that point.

And I think that's why my creativity and my own hands are my favorite art supply.
They are the most adaptable, the most diverse, and the most available art supply any of us can have.

Creativity is a mental muscle.
The more we use it, the stronger it gets.

Our own hands (or, for some people feet or mouths) are controlled by physical muscles and our capabilities in using them, our ability for our hands to do what our mind's eye sees, improves in proportion to our using them for that purpose.

We are in control.
The more generous we are with the attention we give to these things,
the more we are rewarded for our efforts.

Not a lot of things in life come with such a guarantee.
But in this case, you get what you give,
and it's such a huge reward.
